The year was 1987, I was 14 years old and purchased my first "Hobby Grade" R/C from a friend, it was a roller Tamiya Blackfoot. 39 years later, here I am.
I am just a regular guy, a bit of an introvert, a guy who would rather be behind the stage, rather than in the spotlight. I have many different "hobbies" but R/C's have always been some part of my life for the past 39 years.
So I took that Blackfoot way back then and upgraded every part and took it to the local track. I was hooked. I quickly managed to have an entire room filled with R/C parts, tools and different cars. I raced all over the East Coast in my early days to that switching into more of the building part of the hobby. Eventually getting the kids into racing and opening my own R/C track and crawler course.
As Covid hit, I was not sure what the future held. I took all my toys home to my shop and focused Skillswitch Designs, the pre-cursor to Skillswitch RC focusing on BODIES for R/C's.
The first few years were rough. Not knowing how it would do, it took me by surprise getting the amount of requests for bodies. I was planning on focusing on LEXAN bodies, that quickly switched to HARDBODIES due to the demand I was getting. I made lots of mistakes and it took a few years to really get a "system" going.
Today SKILLSWITCH RC has become a pretty well oiled machine, evolved into a nice selection of DIY bodies that allows you to make them your own.
2026 brought SMFRC GARAGE, the "CUSTOM" side of Skillswitch to offer one-off designs and "Finished Product". Also reviving the Facebook Group "The Car Show Micro 2.0" as it's own entity breaking free from social media and landing it's own site.
I will always try to push the limits of creativity and offer items that are different.
Thank you to all those who have helped get Skillswitch RC to where it is today!
